Good quality balls. the Grit are icing on the cake not something you pay extra for.

On the right is my usual ball, and you can tell there are levels of grit to these balls.I've been playing 4 games with these; they share the same durability as a normal ball, albeit having that "used" texture. There is no difference in the bouncing ability or firmness/softness of the balls except for the extra grit.My friends really like these because it's easier to control the ball's direction than the smooth new normal balls.Color and look are almost identical unless you have a really close look.Personally, I don't think the extra grit worth the money, but these balls are really well built compared to the generic, third party balls. So you're paying a decent price for good balls and the grit is just icing on the cake.

Decent with nice textured bite, but expensive and may not bounce perfectly for competitive use

Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free ProductThese seem like decent pickleballs. I’ve now played with them several times, and at my level (intermediate), they feel totally fine, and I like the texture, which helps with spin.I also asked my pickleball group for comments. All the players at my intermediate level said they feel fine — pretty much like normal balls — but the more advanced players said they’re okay, yet something about them bounces a little funny off the paddle. They couldn’t quite put their finger on it, but two of the advanced players said the same thing. So I guess the jury is still out.Based on the high price and the more advanced players feeling the bounce is a little odd, I’m giving these three stars.

Great for beginners trying to get better

Upon first look and opening the box, they don’t feel like they have that much grip. You can feel a slight texture but nothing like I was expecting. So I was pleasantly surprised with the control you get when using it. The added grip helps key in on technique and style. I’m a beginner pickle ball player so I don’t have a whole lot of experience with the different types. With that being said, this is also beginner friendly and great for those wanting to get a little more accurate with practice.

Quality Pickleballs

Franklin Is a name I trust when it comes to sporting equipment, and these pickleballs live up to the high quality I expect from the Franklin name.I did notice the gritty texture of the ball, but did not feel like I had more spin control than I do with any other ball. The balls seem to be of high quality, so I expect they will last a long time. I was careful to mark these as they are not approved for tournament play and I didn’t want to get them mixed up with my other pickleballs.I’m not quite sure why I would need special pickleballs for training, it seems to me that I would be better off using the same balls I would use when competing. I really did not notice any difference when playing with these balls or why these would cost so much more, so for this reason I cannot give it five stars. Great quality, but not a great value.

The (Fluorescent) GOLD standard

Full disclosure, I don't use these for pickleball at all. My kids love them for backyard baseball though. The weight is just right. They're light enough to hit easily but heavy enough to actually fly through the air with some distance. The textured grip surface is excellent and holds up remarkably well. We've been playing on concrete and asphalt, and there's no visible wear on the surface texture yet. The fluorescent color is difficult to photograph accurately, but in person it makes these incredibly easy to spot in grass, bushes, or pretty much anywhere they land. For the price and quality, these are a no brainer purchase.

Great for beginners like me!

So I’m new to pickleball and when u saw training ball, I thought it would be perfect. It turns out it is because playing with my aunt, who is an experienced player, she said these would be great for learning because they’re textured so they give a little more control while I learn. I also appreciate the bright yellow since it’s easier to track since I’m constantly running after the ball (still a beginner ha). They also feel a bit heavier which also gives a feeling of more control. They do seem durable for practice or casual play and I’d probably purchase again since I am still learning, but they also seem a bit pricy for three balls.

Sturdy option for pickle or backyard baseball

I love these pickleballs! They bounce better than the three that came packaged with our set of paddles. We've also used these as whiffle balls for the kids in the yard. They're durable enough to withstand a metal bat and won't fly over our fence. Our small dog has played a little fetch with the balls and they don't show any extra scratches or wear that would keep us from playing pickleball.

Similar to Franklin X-40 Outdoor but with some grab, control. Drilling balls, play heavier, pricey.

These Franklin Max Grit drilling balls are solid, firm, and scuffed up to start. They give some extra grab off the paddle so I feel a lot of control to work on things, great for fine-tuning technique and honing in on specific shots. They are very similar in build to the Franklin X-40 Outdoor but they do play heavier with a slightly different performance (outdoor singles, ymmv) so I’m marking them for practice not rec play. They also aren’t certified for official matches. The Franklin X-40 Outdoor are a great value at $2.05/ball for 12 (Amazon price as of 10/02/25). These Franklin trainers come in at $6.66/ball.

Textured Balls That Add Spin and Control

I tried these Franklin Max Grit pickleballs and they really do feel broken in right out of the box. The textured surface gives extra spin and control, which made my shots feel more precise and added a bit of fun to the rallies. I also like the bright yellow color because it is easy to track on the court, even during faster games. They feel a little heavier and more solid than other balls I have used, which helps with consistency. They may be a bit more expensive, but they play well and seem like a durable option for practice or casual games.

Quality brand, quality pickle balls

I didn't hear about pickleball until a few years ago when I moved to Arkansas. There are a lot of seniors living here and pickleball seems to be their preferred athletic release, aside from golf. It's played much like tennis, but the balls are perforated like the whiffle balls I played with as a kid, so they don't go as fast or bounce as high as a tennis ball. And in keeping with the slower play, you use solid paddles, instead of strung racquets. They are about baseball size and have 40 holes drilled in them, according to the package. So, like a whiffle softball or golfball, these balls don't go as far or as fast as an inflated ball. In other words, this is a lower intensity game, unlike tennis or racketball. Which is no doubt why seniors like it so much. These balls are "pre-scuffed", which aids in using "English" to spin the ball to get an advantage on your opponent. And they are the standard safety yellow-green as all the other pickleballs I've seen. If there are other colors available, I'm not aware of them. The three-pack is nice. Like how racketballs are sold. Finally, Franklin has been making quality products like this for a long time and I played with dozens of their balls for multiple sports while growing up. Recommended.

Good texture and great visibility!

These are bright. The yellow/lime color really pops on the court. The Franklin Sports Max Grit Textured Pickleballs deliver additional grip with micro abrasions across the surface of the ball. The texture isn't super aggressive like sandpaper. It is more like micro texture that will allow your textured pickleball paddle really grip the ball. The balls offer additional control over your spins and placements while playing.Again, the almost highlighter yellow color really pops on the court.*5 stars!

Grit out of the Box

We've recently started using the Max Grit Textured Pickleballs and have been really happy with them. They're slightly heavier and feel more solid than the balls we normally play with, which gives them a more solid, consistent feel during play. One thing we especially like is that they feel "broken in" right out of the box—no need to hit around to scruff them up before they feel just right. It is a very even, textured surface so it adds a bit of extra control and spin. Overall, a great option if you're looking for a durable, ready-to-play ball with a little bit more weight and grip.

Had a blast using these Max Grit Pickleballs over the weekend

Yes, these are actually yellow in color, not sure why the posting shows them in green color in the photos!I used them during a weekend of playing, and they made a big difference in how much fun I had. The extra grip on the ball really helped me put more spin and control on my shots, which felt great whether we were indoors or outside. The bright yellow color made them easy to track, even during fast rallies. The bounce was consistent, and the balls held up well through hours of play. Overall, they added a new level of precision and enjoyment to the games for a budget friendly ball pack, definitely worth trying if looking to up the fun factor on the court.

Pickleball practice is better!

It's nice to have these practice balls. I'm very new to this adventure, so these are helping with the learning curve.

Highly durable, and helpful

I recently tried out these textured pickleballs for training, and they have some unique features that set them apart from other options on the market. The texture is noticeably more pronounced than standard balls, which provides a better grip and allows for more spin on each shot. This makes them ideal for practicing specific techniques without having to break in a ball first. The texture also helps with visibility, which is a plus during outdoor play when the lighting isn't perfect. However, I found that the balls aren't as consistent in their bounce compared to some other brands I've used, which might be an issue if you're looking for something more competitive. The price point is also a bit steep for practice balls, especially when you consider they aren't certified for official play. Despite the cost, they do offer good value for training purposes, and I can see how they would be beneficial for players looking to improve their control and spin. If you're on a budget or need something for regular competitive play, you might want to look elsewhere, but for focused training sessions, these could be a solid choice.

Good balls

We are casual pickleball players just for fun and exercise. I got these for my hubby, and now I’m regretting it because he loves to put a spin on his hits, and these only make that easier. These differ from our other balls in that they are brighter, making them easier to see in low light and for color-blind people. They have a rough texture, making them easier to spin. They also seem to have more bounce than our other balls. Overall, I like them and think they will be the ball of choice in our games.

Smash worthy

These pickleballs are a hit at our house. My husband has been using them nonstop and is convinced they are secretly helping him become a pickleball pro. The textured surface gives extra grip for spin and control, and they work great both indoors and outdoors. They feel durable, survive his “intense” smashes, and I don’t have to worry about them flying into the neighbor’s yard. Great quality and a solid value for a 3-pack.

Nice quality, pre-scuffed balls help with spin

These are excellent pickleballs! I do think they are on the pricier end of what I would be willing to pay for 3 pickleballs ($19.99 at the time of the review), however, these are very good quality. They are the standard shape, size and color of usual pickleballs, but they do come pre-scuffed which helps get the proper spin. We have played with these 5 different times now and my husband and I both agree they are better than our previous, cheaper quality pickleballs. I'm very glad I took a chance and ordered these - I would recommend for others enjoy the sport!

Great high-grip pickleballs - a bit pricey but worth it

Right out of the box, these balls felt different from the smooth ones I’d tried before. The pre-textured surface gives them a bit more grip on the paddle, which actually helped me control my serves and dinks better than usual. The fluorescent yellow color is a great bonus during our evening matches. We play under those mediocre park lights, and these balls practically glow - they’re way easier to track than the faded ones people bring from their garages. After three weeks of outdoor play on rough courts, the surface texture has held up surprisingly well, even with a few games that ended with the balls rolling into gravel. My only complaint is the price for a 3-pack - they're a bit pricey - but for casual games, practice sessions, or teaching newbies, they’ve been excellent.
